Budget Everest Base Camp Trek

This 14-day Budget Everest Base Camp trek (5364m) is planned to be the cheapest and easiest way for you to arrive at Everest Base Camp. This is where Sir Edmund Hillary (New Zealand) and Tenzing Norgay (Nepal) stood and planned their ascent of the world’s tallest mountain - Mt. Everest (8848m). This is your chance to relive this moment and consider what they were facing. This trek is within the UNESCO and World Heritage Listed Sagamartha National Park. On the way to EBC you will visit the famous Tengboche Monastery where you can see this massive peak, as well as other 8000 meter giants like Lhotse (8516m) and Makalu (8463m). This trek also heads to Kala Patthar (5643m) which is the nearest viewpoint of Mt. Everest and other enormous snow-covered Himalayan mountains. From EBC you can see the Khumbu Glacier as it descends down the face of Everest toward base camp.

The trails will take you through gorges, lush green forests and over mountains in order to reach EBC. There will be time set aside for you to acclimatize before ascending to higher elevations on your way to EBC. You will pass through a numerous villages in the Khumbu region that will give you a first-hand indication of what the villagers have to endure to survive in these mountains, and also how their staunch Tibetan Buddhist faith enriches and gives meaning to their lives. 

Along the trail you will be amazed at just how close these snow capped peaks are and their size will dwarf you. It will seem like you can reach out and touch them. Four of the world’s tallest mountains are in this region of the Himalayas.

Your scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla will make you realize the far-reaching range of the Himalayan Mountains. On your return fight you will have a different admiration of them after having trekked through these mountains and valleys on your way to EBC. This is a trek for nature-lovers and for those who have always wondered what it would be like to stand at the foot of the world’s highest mountain.
