Everest Base Camp Trek 16 Days

This 16 day Everest Base Camp trek (5364m) will follow in the footsteps of New Zealander Sir Edmund Hillary and Nepali Tenzing Norgay who stood in this exact location before their famous ascent to the summit of Mt. Everest (8848m). This is your chance in a lifetime opportunity to look at exactly where they prepared for this enormous challenge on 29 May 1953. You will be trekking within the UNESCO and World Heritage Sagamartha National Park. You will also visit the famous Tengboche Monastery where you can get a glimpse of Mt. Everest, as well as other 8000m plus peaks like Lhotse (8516m) and Makalu (8463m). You will climb to the summit of Kala Patthar (5643m) which is the nearest viewpoint of Mt. Everest and other massive snow-capped Himalayan peaks. At EBC you can see the Khumbu Glacier as it slowly descends down the face of Mt. Everest.

You will pass through gorges, lush forests and across mountains in order to reach EBC. There will be ample to allow you to acclimatize before ascending to higher elevations where there is less oxygen. As you pass through a number of villages in the Khumbu region you will get a taste of what the villagers endure on a daily basis to survive while living in the Himalayan mountains, and also understand how their Tibetan Buddhist faith enriches their lives and creates a sense of peace and harmony. 

Along the trail you will be surprised at the nearness of these snow covered peaks. The full magnitude of these mountains makes you feel small and inconsequential as you gaze skyward. Four of the tallest mountains in the world are in this region.

Your scenic flight to Lukla, and on your return to Kathmandu, will give you a perceptive of the extensive range of the Himalayan Mountains. On your return fight you will have a different appreciation and perspective of them, due to you having trekked through these mountains and valleys in order to reach EBC. This trek will certainly appeal to nature-lovers and those who have always dreamed of seeing the world’s tallest peak.
