La Gomera is the legendary island from which Christopher Columbus began his trips to the New World 500 years ago. Located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, the second smallest volcanic island in the Canary Islands boasts lush forests of endemic plant species. In fertile valleys, wine, vegetables and the typical Canarian bananas are grown. Scatchy scenery, high mountains and rough coastlines form an impressive contrast.
