The Mardi Himal Trek is a popular and enjoyable hiking adventure in the Annapurna region of Nepal. It offers a breathtaking experience of the Mardi region's pristine and vibrant natural environment.
The trek reaches its highest point at the Base Camp, at an altitude of 4500 meters. Previously, the trail was a pathway for shepherds to lead sheep and goats for grazing. However, in 2012, the route to Mardi Himal became accessible to all trekkers. Initially, only a few trekking groups would venture there, equipped with tents and catering teams. Over time, new teahouses have been constructed, accommodating the increasing number of trekkers each year.
Although the Mardi hike is one of Nepal's most well-known short treks, it is also the easiest and shortest route available. Despite its shorter duration, the natural beauty of Mardi Himal rivals that of any other trek in the Annapurna region. Furthermore, the trekking trails remain untouched and are filled with surprises. Due to the circular nature of the Mardi Himal trek, there is no need to backtrack along the same route for the entire journey.
The Mardi Himal Trek has recently emerged as a fantastic alternative to the famous Ghorepani Poonhill Trek. Unlike the Poonhill Trek, the Mardi Himal route is less crowded, with only a few recently established accommodation sites. During peak trekking seasons, the Poonhill Trek attracts many tourists, resulting in overcrowding. As a result, many people choose the Mardi Trip to catch a glimpse of the magnificent Mt. Machhapuchhre and other mountains in the Annapurna range while avoiding the crowds.
Mardi Trekking in Nepal's Rich Ecosystem
The Mardi Himal Trek begins in the foothills of the Annapurna region. As you embark on the hike, you will traverse prominent ridges leading to Mardi Himal. Throughout the journey, you will be treated to breathtaking views of the majestic Annapurna Himal, Dhaulagiri Himal, Manaslu Himal, and other nearby peaks. This trek offers a remarkable opportunity to immerse yourself in diverse cultures and witness stunning geographical features.
Like family hikes in Annapurna or the Annapurna Panorama Trip, the Mardi Himal Trek can also be an excellent choice for a vacation with your loved ones. It allows bonding and creating lasting memories while exploring the region's beauty.
One of the distinct features of this trek is the rapid landscape transition. In just a few days, you will experience the shift from lush lowlands to alpine mountains. The trail takes you through verdant valleys, lush hills, forests, and farmlands before ascending to high ridges above the tree line. The stretch from Low Camp to High Camp is particularly noteworthy, characterized by short bushes and a nearly barren and wild environment. Strong winds often sweep through the area in the afternoons, adding to the sense of adventure and excitement.
