New Zealand By Train, Bus & Ferry

Don’t worry about driving and navigating your own way around New Zealand – this holiday makes it much easier with scenic trains, buses and a ferry between the South and North Island!

From here, you’ll experience a spectacular Milford Sound day tour and have time to explore the lovely lake-side town at your leisure. Then travel by Intercity coach from Queenstown to Christchurch, for your first 2-night stay in the city and enjoy the fun of a trolley tour.

Next is another spellbinding highlight aboard one of the world’s great rail journeys, the TranzAlpine Scenic Train. Travel across the South Island, from west to east, through Arthur’s Pass National Park and descend to the coastal town of Greymouth. This is jade country and a chance to enjoy the wild ocean beaches and maybe even spot a piece of the revered pounamu greenstone. After a 2-night stay, board the TranzAlpine for an equally spectacular return train journey through the Southern Alps and Canterbury Plains to Christchurch.

After time to explore the southern capital, it’s another thrilling journey, this time by bus to Picton, where you’ll board the stunning Interislander day ferry to Wellington. Enjoy four nights discovering the highlights of Wellington, the Harbour Capital, including a city sights tour. Then board the Northern Explorer train bound for Auckland. Experience the extremes of New Zealand’s scenery, from the fertile farmlands of Waikato to the volcanic peaks of the Central Plateau and the sparkling Kapiti coast.
