This short 12-day trek will take you to the base of the world’s tallest mountain - Mt. Everest (8848m). This is one of Nepal’s most popular trekking destinations. It offers an abundance of natural beauty and a good dose of spirituality when you join with the Lamas at Tengboche Monastery and recite the powerful Buddhist mantra “Om Mani padme hum” that is said to purify your mind, body and spirit.
Sherpa Expedition Teams has specially tailored this trek for those who want to visit Everest Base Camp but may be short on time. This Everest Base Camp (EBC) trek is packed full of adventure, exciting moments and at an affordable price. We will take you there on the shortest route in the shortest time. We guarantee that you will have everlasting memories of this fabulous trekking adventure.
This “bucket list” adventure begins with a short scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. Your first day on the trail takes you to Phakding and then on to the celebrated Sherpa village of Namche Bazaar (3440m), home of many Sherpas involved in the tourism industry and where you hit the trail. From Namche Bazaar we head to Tengboche, a village rich in ancient Tibetan Buddhist history and home to the sacred Buddhist temple - Dawa Choling Gompa where you can immerse yourself in the captivating prayer mantras and pray for your own safe journey to the most popular destination in the Everest region.
From Namche Bazaar we head to Dingboche before heading to higher altitudes where your fitness will be put to the test. To make it easier to acclimatize we will stop at Dingboche where we will stay active in order to better acclimatize - doctor’s recommendation. From Dingboche we head to Lobuche (4940m) where we have incredible views of the giant Himalaya Massif.
The following day we climb to Everest Base Camp (5364m) where we can look back nearly 70 years when Edmund Hillary (New Zealand) and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay (Nepal) stood and dreamed of conquering the world’s highest peak – Mt Everest (8848m). We will take pleasure in views of the enormous Khumbu Glacier that ranges from 4900m to its source at 7600m. Leaving EBC we head back to Gorak Shep (5185m). The next day we trek to Kala Patthar (5555m) where views of Everest and Khumbu Glaciers at sunrise will leave you awestruck as the light changes and reflects off the face of this massive peak.
We then head back to Gorak Shep, Pheriche, Namche Bazaar and ultimately to Lukla. A special feature of this adventure is the scenic flight from Lukla to Kathmandu – offering a birds-eye view of many soaring snow-covered giants.
The Everest Base Camp trek is suitable for those with moderate fitness levels that will allow you to manage the demanding climb to higher altitudes. This is a once in a lifetime experience that will leave you with lasting memories and photos to look back on in future years.
Uma Holidays Travel & Tours can tailor this trek to suit your particular needs and can extend it to 14 days in order to make it less physically demanding.
You don’t necessarily have to climb Everest to fully appreciate its beauty. Standing at its base will gratify the most adventurous spirit and leave you flabbergasted at the sheer size of this great mountain as it soars into the sky.
