Short Langtang Valley Trek

This is a great opportunity to avoid the usual trekking crowds and benefit from some quiet time in the isolated Langtang Valley. The 10 day Langtang Valley trek takes you into the Langtang National Park, a land of natural unchanged beauty that became Nepal’s first Himalayan national park in 1976. This region is also home to the Tibetan Buddhist Tamang people and is only a short distance away from Kathmandu which cuts back on travel time to reach this stunning region. The amazing mountain views and the hospitality of the Tamang villagers make this one of the most enjoyable trekking destinations in all of Nepal. Many homes, businesses, and villages were ruined after the 2015 earthquake and abruptly ended their income from tourism. The stamina and determination of these people have now rebuilt their economy with tourists returning to this beautiful region.

The Langtang National Park comprises of 25% forest, and ranges from subtropical to alpine terrains and includes deciduous oak and maple, pine, and rhododendron (in full bloom in spring). On this trek you will see various native animals, such as the Himalayan black bear, Himalayan Tahr, Assam macaque and red pandas. Legend says that this is the home of the Yeti, but do not hold your breath expecting it to jump out of the bushes! 

One of the many features of this trek is a visit to the sacred Hindu Gosainkunda lakes region where many pilgrims visit in August of each year. This area is also significant to Buddhists who visit the famous Kyanjin Gompa (Buddhist monastery). The trek begins at Syabru Besi Village and then heads over high alpine pastures where Yaks graze and through dense forests to Kyanjin Gompa. A trek up to Kyanjin RI (peak), offers an outstanding 360-degree view of the Himalayan Mountains before you have to head down through the valley and then return by bus back to Kathmandu. 

Rhododendron and bamboo forests, wild waterfalls and spectacular snow-clad peaks are just some of the various attractions of this trek to Langtang Valley. Trekking in this picturesque valley will make you admire the spirit of these tough Tamang mountain people and their daily existence in this unforgiving terrain. Fewer tourists visit this region, thus ensuring your trekking experience will be more relaxing and peaceful.
